Batik Pekalongan had UNESCO Recognition |

PEKALONGAN, KOMPAS.com - Craft batik Pekalongan, Central Java in the near future to get recognition from UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural) as one of the world's cultural heritage.
"The recognition from UNESCO is scheduled to be done in October 2009. Because the people of Indonesia in particular to maintain Pekalongan batik aesthetic values," said Chairman of Pekalongan Batik Lovers Circle of Friends, Fatiyah A. Kadir di Pekalongan, Senin. Kadir in Pekalongan, Monday.
According to him, batik proposed effort can be recognized as a Unesco world cultural heritage through a long process and quite complex because it must meet the requirements, such as academic preparation of the manuscript of batik and the support from the government.
"Indonesian Batik is proposed is not the motive but aesthetic values which until now still firmly held by some of Pekalongan batik artisans," he said.
One Rusdiyanto batik crafters say, the craftsmen optimistic with the recognition from Unesco would add Pekalongan batik could be more familiar world.
"Strengthening of UNESCO's plan we'll be sure to increase motivation for more craftsmen mngembangkan batik," he said.
